About:
On Books
Journey with Mr. Johnson as he reveals some of the hidden treasures of his personal library, featuring first editions of important poetry collections, rare editions of scores, novels, and much more. This unique presentation is a generous gift to the world of musicians, historians, and enthusiasts alike. As libraries (in their physical form) are not portable, this display is an invaluable resource, the profound nature of which is beyond words! We are ever so grateful to Mr. Johnson for his generosity and for taking the time to document his life’s work and legacy in such a meaningful way.
The Songmakers’ Almanac
The Songmakers’ Almanac, formed by Graham Johnson in 1976 and active for about 20 years, reinvented the song recital for performers and audiences alike. Mr. Johnson delves into his masterfully themed programs that weave together both familiar and neglected song repertoire and are devised to feature an interplay of song and spoken word. The founder singers were Dame Felicity Lott, Ann Murray DBE, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Richard Jackson—artists with whom he has established long and fruitful collaborations both on the concert platform and in the recording studio. Some two hundred and fifty Songmakers' programmes were presented and nearly 200 artists were part of their concerts over the years.
