Hosted by Graham Johnson, The Song of the Day series is a daily meditation on the many layers and complexities contained in a single song. Each song is dedicated to one or more performers who would have taken part in SongFest this summer. Dedicatees were chosen in collaboration between our artistic Director Rosemary Ritter and the students.

About Our Participants
Alexa Sowers
An active collaborative pianist, Alexa Sowers received her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Iowa and her Master of Music degree in collaborative piano at Illinois State University. Her instructors and mentors include Jean Barr, Tuyen Tonnu, Ksenia Nosikova, Paul Wirth and Rachel Joselson.
As a solo pianist, Alexa has won numerous competitions. She has been a featured pianist in the Piano Sundays at Old Capitol concert series in Iowa City and participated in several festivals including the Young Artist World Piano Festival and the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy.
Alexa is currently studying with Dr. Andrew Harley at Eastman School of Music where she is a DMA candidate in piano accompanying and chamber music. At Eastman School of Music, she has held a graduate assistantship as opera pianist/coach and is currently holding a graduate assistantship as studio pianist.
Logan Tanner
Countertenor Logan Tanner has been a first-place winner of several competitions including the New York Classical Music Society International Competition, the Choralis Young Artist Competition, and the American Prize in Opera. Most recently Mr. Tanner was named a finalist in the Dallas Opera Vocal Competition and will compete for the top prize in June 2020.
Mr. Tanner has been engaged as soloist with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Austin Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, Choralis, Chorus Austin, New York Chamber Choir, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston, La Fiocco, and the Arcadia Players.
Mr Tanner’s recent operatic roles have included Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina, and Oberon in Britten’s a Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition, Mr. Tanner was a Vocal Fellow at The Music Academy of the West in 2019.
